The first cordless phones introduced in 1980, operating on the 27 MHz frequency. Utilizing a limited number of channels, 27 MHz phones experience significant interference, static and security problems, and range was less than 100 feet.
It was in 1986 when the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted the frequency range 47- 49 MHz specifically for cordless phones which help reduce interference, It also reduced the power needed to run them. Range and clarity were still lacking, however, and users were required to stand or sit still to talk on Phone.
